What is nutritional therapy?

Nutritional therapy is a form of natural healing that identifies nutritional and health imbalances and heals them using the nutrient dense, real foods that our bodies need. It can help with a range of health concerns, not only (as you might expect) digestive and weight issues, but also blood sugar and hormone imbalances, food sensitivities, fatigue and more. We all know the saying "you are what you eat," but it really is true that the foundation of our health is the food choices we make. If you have health issues that you want to address naturally, or are just plain confused these days about what makes a healthy diet, I can help you.
Or bodies are incredibly complex, integrated systems that are largely self-healing given the right conditions. When we are impacted by such things as stress, poor diet and lack of sleep, on top of pre-existing (often inherited) vulnerabilities, our bodies start to suffer and can become sick. BUT, once we start to clean up our act, get the right balance of rest and exercise, and start to eat the nutritious foods that suit us, we can begin to heal ourselves, especially when given a gentle nudge in the right direction from safe, natural remedies.
My nutritional therapy training enables me to identify the imbalances in your body and ascertain your nutritional needs. Most of what I do to correct these imbalances involves real food, the satisfying whole foods our ancestors evolved to eat. I may also recommend nutritional supplements if these are indicated, in order to support the healing and rebalancing process. I promise you that you will enjoy the foods I suggest, and that you won’t feel deprived or hungry!
There is a lot of confusion about what foods are healthy, and a lot of this confusion comes from poorly conducted research and biased conclusions. There is also a lot of individual variation in our bodies and metabolisms, so a food choice that works for one person may not be best for someone else. I can help you discover what works for you.
Before your consultation, I'll ask you to keep a seven-day food journal, noting down everything you eat and drink and how it makes you feel. I also send you a detailed nutritional questionnaire that gives me information about any nutritional imbalances and what is needed to correct them.
When we meet, we will have a detailed conversation about your current health concerns, as well as your health and life history so I can really get to understand your situation. My advanced nutritional training means I am able to order lab tests that assess your microbiome and digestive health, as well as identify food sensitivities. I can also do testing to identify hormone and adrenal imbalances. After the consultation, I will give you an individualized nutritional program, which will include advice on what to eat, healthy food choices and nutritional supplement recommendations if indicated.
We will meet on an ongoing basis, usually every month or two, with phone and email check-ins if needed for advice and encouragement. At each office visit I will assess your progress, using the nutritional questionnaire and functional clinical assessment. This allows me (and you) to see the ongoing improvements in your health.
To help you find out more about nutritional therapy and whether it could help you, I offer a free, 20-minute mini-consultation. Email me or call 650 557 2160 to schedule yours. Or click on the button to schedule online.
